Scores of over 100000 points (i.e. eredani, SadisticMystic) involve using special stages. It needs to be decided which of the following is preferable:

Special Stages allowed
1. Collect all rings. Go to Tails/Knuckles. Clear special stage.
2. Recollect all rings. Go to the other one. Clear special stage.
3. Recollect all rings. Finish the level.

Special Stages Disallowed
1. Collect all rings. Finish the level.

Technically speaking, isn't the former already technically against the rules?

In games where your score is cumulative, it must be achieved in a single continuous run (without dying). You may not enter Bonus Stages or Special Stages in the middle of a level.

S3DB does use cumulative scores IIRC. Which, in my eyes, would make those invalid.

Yeah, I find it funny how the general rules state that it's disallowed, yet S3D's specific rules allowed it.

For the same reason we lack SA3 Unidivision.

So when it comes down to votes, I say either axe, or (extreme case) freestyle. But preferably the former.

(For the record, my S3DB scores don't use special stages.)

On a semi-related though unrelated note, why are there ring stats for S3DB Act 3's when, on similar boss-only levels in other games, there aren't?

Because they eventually need to be put there - if said levels have more than 0 rings.

Tracking a level that doesn't have any rings is kinda redundant. X)

Ever since I first saw eredani's scores for the game (the one Sprint took while I was away reviewing anime), I knew something was wrong with them. Seriously, 100,000 on more than three stages?

Well I'm in favour of banning it, since it eliminates time bonuses and makes it all about getting all the rings in the special stages. It's not as though anyone's going to miss a ring or an enemy in the main level.

Well excepting Panic Puppet if you miss an enemy I want to know how you beat the level.

And I've missed rings before in the runs I've done. >_> *Recalls the ONE ring he missed in SS1*

I guess it comes down to whether we want score charts for S3D to be a mirror of ring charts, and easily maximized.

I don't really care which version is adopted.

How about we just drop score charts for S3D? (Or ring charts, they'd be pretty well the same.)

The score chart would become the ring chart under the proposed rule - but keeping it the way it is is a contradiction of the rules for other games. (And it's inconsistent across systems.)

One of them should go.

Just one thing about that. Could it be possible to finish a level with max rings and have a non-negligible time bonus?

If that's the case, I don't think we should be dropping divisions.

I daresay you could finish with lots of rings and a time bonus.

Or even not so many rings and a bigger time bonus.

Also I forget if Act 3 Score's are up, but if they aren't they should be.

And Im pro Score and Ring both staying, despite the fact I've yet to get around to doing either.

I'd say keep the consistancy and add the rule of disallowing Special Stages. Keep both divisions.
